Intro to Tapestry Weaving Workshop with Bethany Moody

In this immersive workshop, participants will be introduced to the art of tapestry weaving. Together, we will transform everyday materials into a collaborative, sustainable fabric. During this workshop, participants will learn to craft yarn from t-shirts, scrap fabric, and plastic shopping bags, unlocking the exciting potential of waste. Supplemental weaving materials will include naturally dyed wool and reclaimed yarns. Weaving techniques covered will include tabby weave, soumak, and rya knots; through practice, participants will become familiar with the tools and terms of tapestry weaving. All necessary supplies will be provided, however, participants are encouraged to contribute their own t-shirts, scrap fabrics and plastic bags to upcycle into yarn. In this way, participants can further their connection to this collaborative textile. Get ready to create, connect and contribute to this ongoing community project!
