Sgraffito Workshop with Leah Hamel

In this 2 day workshop, participants will create a pinch pot planter with legs and a saucer on day 1, then on day 2 we will sgraffito our planters. Pinching is one of the oldest techniques for working with clay and requires no tools other than your hands! Planters will be fired after the completion of the workshop and can be picked up two weeks later. September 21 and 28, 10am-12pm.

This workshop is free with generous help from our grant funders. Please consider donating $25 to cover material fees. Click here to donate.

About Leah:

Leah Hamel is a multidisciplinary visual artist and art educator based in Birmingham, AL. She utilizes craft based materials and techniques to create art in a contemporary context. Her work is rooted in her love for nature and an interest in how humans interact with the environment, knowingly or inadvertently. Hamel often makes use of discarded materials, such as previously used plastic or paper, transforming them through knitting, paper making, and other experimental means. She also creates both sculptural and functional ceramic objects. Her interest in creating ecologically based art is to engage people with the natural world and inspire individuals to foster a deeper connection with nature in their own community.
